Well, the pitching situation for the Orioles perhaps has gotten a lot interesting when camp opens up next week. I heard about this on the radio this morning while driving to Baltimore, but it looks like Zach Britton may be hurt.
Hearing some bad news with
#Orioles Britton and his shoulder. Injury from last year is still lingering. Workload will be limited in ST.
He later added:
Britton’s health comes on the heals of Markakis’ news in December that he needed surgery for a sports hernia. Both will be a question mark
and then…
This spring. I would think that it would hurt Britton’s chances of being ready to pitch for Opening Day, injury lingering this long needs.
Then the Baltimore Sun this morning, reported:
Dan Duquette, Jim’s cousin and the current Orioles’ executive vice president of baseball operations, released the following statement this morning: “We are currently monitoring Zach Britton. He has already reported to spring training and is scheduled to begin his throwing progression this Friday.”
“Throwing progression” signifies that Britton probably is going to be taking it slowly to start the spring – as Jim Duquette suggested.
At this point, I would think that Britton will obviously take it easy this spring. As well, it would be no surprise if he landed on the disabled list for a bit. It’s another bit of frustrating news for this team, especially when one of their better, young pitchers have been affected.
Hopefully, it’s nothing too significant with Britton; however, it’s not news that we want to hear as Spring Training starts next week.
