Pitcher Mark Hendrickson An Oriole…

I was about to head to sleep, but Ian from Sox and Dawgs sent me an email via a report from Roch Kubatko on MASNSports.com that the Orioles have come close to an agreement with hurler Mark Hendrickson.

Here’s a bit more from the Orioles.com Spencer Fordin about the pitcher.

From the Orioles.com: The report said that any deal would be pending a physical examination and that an announcement could come early in the week. Hendrickson’s agent told the Baltimore Sun last week that there was interest between the two sides, and the Orioles have consistently said they need to add multiple pitchers this offseason.

Hendrickson, who began his career with Toronto, posted a 7-8 record and a 5.45 ERA last season with the Marlins. The southpaw made 19 starts before the All-Star break and racked up a 6.09 ERA, and he’s posted a 5.38 ERA as a starter and a 3.11 mark as a reliever over the past three years.

I guess he’s a pitcher and another arm the Orioles are looking for. There have been rumblings over the past week or so about the team having interest in him. Ok, so he’s not the sexy signing we want, but he’s an arm and is a major league veteran — right?

I guess the plan is to go with cheap, but low-risk/high-reward guys until the pitchers on the arm are ready to contribute to the majors. Um, I do like the signing — not really, I would have preferred the team go after someone little bit better, but if he can do the job, then so be it.
