The Orioles could not build upon their win on Tuesday as they lost to the Mariners, 4-1.Well, the Baltimore ace was a lot better than he was this past weekend in Oakland, but he got punished by the long ball, and his teammates once again didn’t do much at the plate — leaving seven on base. The offense was quiet again, and although Guthrie was not great — he deserved some run support.
Seattle’s Jose Lopez homered twice off of Jeremy Guthrie (a solo shot in the second inning and a two-run homer in the sixth) and a Yuniesky Betancourt RBI groundout in the 4th inning made the difference. Baltimore’s only run came off a Brian Roberts single to plate Matt Wieters.
Other than that, it was a rainy miserable night to be out — especially where I reside — therefore, I give anyone credit who made it out to the game at the Yard.
- The Orioles on Day Two of the MLB draft took Oriole legend Al Bumbry’s son, Steve, in the 12th round. Also, the Orioles drafted the brother of Raven’s quarterback Joe Flacco — Mike — in the 31st round. Although both men face long shots to make “the Show”, it’s quite an accomplishment to be drafted by anyone — much less a city with strong connection to their respective families.
- It looks like Koji Uehara will be coming off the DL today, and will pitch in tonight’s game against former Oriole Garrett Olson, who is 0-1 with a 4.39 ERA.
