Fan Fest Notes & Thoughts: Alfredo Simon

Alfredo Simon pitching...During Orioles FanFest, pitcher Alfredo Simon spoke with the media for a couple of minutes.

Simon updated everyone on his workouts, status heading into Spring Training, his life this offseason versus what happened to him last year, and outlook for the season.

Here are some quotes and notes I was able to pick up from him.

Concerning his troubles last off-season, versus this winter & if he is ready for the camp in Sarasota:

Yah, I think this it is going to be a good year for me; I don’t have a lot of things on my mind – my mind is clear.

All the trouble I had in the Dominican Republic is over already; so I’m just going to come and work hard and just help the team to win games this year.

Whether he wants to come to Spring Training as a starter, or reliever?

I think it’s better to be a starter, because all my pitches are good; I’d like to win a lot of games.

About his shape heading into Spring Training:

Yeah, I feel strong. I’ve just been working a lot. I have been in Sarasota working out; I came early to get ready for Spring Training, and so far everything is going fine.

A question asked by a member of the media as to why he was not traded:

I didn’t get traded because they know I have good stuff and can help the team this year. Before all of that, let’s see what happens this year.

Anything that he needs to work on heading into camp:

I think I need to work on my slider. Sometimes I just throw the curve and my slider – sometimes – it doesn’t work that well. Once I learn the slider as a pitcher, I’ll be fine. I think that pitch can help me a lot.
