We all know that the newest Oriole designated hitter Nelson Cruz has had a checkered history as of late due to his involvement and suspension in the sordid Biogenesis saga.
Yesterday, he met the media and had the full support of his teammates.
In the past, Nick Markakis and Chris Davis have made it a point to speak about against PED abuse in the sport; however, he and other Orioles of note – Adam Jones, Chris Davis, Matt Wieters, J.J. Hardy, Manny Machado, Darren O’Day and Tommy Hunter – according to the Baltimore Sun showed up at Cruz’s press conference.
Everyone towed the company line and made him feel welcome.
In the end, some fans will accept him onto the roster, others won’t.
Then again, the players want to win, and so does the manager along with the front office. If Cruz can help out the team, then all will be good.
If he stinks, then it is what it is.
Cruz served his suspension and paid his penance. He said the right things as any big-name player does in a press conference. The Baltimore players sang his praises, and I guess all is good.
Let’s hope the Cruz we all saw in Texas is the one hitting bombs at Camden Yards in the weeks ahead.
