Forty years ago today, Robertp Clemente lost his life while trying to help send relief suppiles to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Most everyone knows what he did on the baseball field; however, he gave up the ultimate sacrifice – his life – doing his best to improve the lives of the less fortunate.
I never saw him play; however, based on what I have seen on videotape, on TV and through the accounts of others, Clemente was one hell of a ballplayer.
For that, we all should take a moment today, read up on his life, legacy and always remember an amazing athlete, along with humanitarian.
