Orioles acquire RHP Bud Norris from Houston Astros in exchange for of L.J. Hoes, Minor League LHP Josh Hader and 2014 competitive balance pick

RHP JASON HAMMEL placed on 15-day disabled list, OF STEVE PEARCE reinstated from DL

The Orioles today announced that they have acquired RHP BUD NORRIS and International Signing Bonus Slot #91 from the Houston Astros in exchange for OF L.J. HOES, minor league LHP JOSH HADER and Baltimore's 2014 First Year Player Draft Competitive Balance Pick, Round A (selection #2).
 
Norris, 28, was 6-9 with a 3.93 ERA (126.0IP, 55ER) and 13 Quality Starts in 21 starts for the Astros in 2013. In 119 career games (118 starts), Norris is 34-46 with a 4.33 ERA (689.2IP, 332ER). He made at least 27 starts and struck out at least 158 batters in each of the last three seasons.
 
Hoes, 23, was hitless in four at-bats in three games for the Orioles between the 2012-13 seasons. Hoes was batting .304/.406/.403 in 99 games for Triple-A Norfolk and ranked among International League leaders in on-base percentage (3rd), hits (5th, 111) and runs (T-3rd, 62).
 
Hader, 19, was selected by the Orioles in the 19th round of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Old Mill High School in Millersville, MD and was 3-6 with a 2.65 ERA (85.0IP, 25ER) and 79 strikeouts in 17 starts with Class-A Delmarva this season, ranking fifth in the South Atlantic League in ERA and first among SAL left-handers.
 
Hammel was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to July 29, with a right flexor mass strain. In 21 starts for the Orioles in 2013, Hammel is 7-8 with a 5.20 ERA (123.0IP, 71ER).
 
Pearce has been on the disabled list since June 21 with left wrist tendinitis. In 28 games for the Orioles in 2013, Pearce has batted .235/.311/.383 with three homers and nine RBI in 81 at-bats.
