The Adam Jones Quandry

A question that has been brought up over and over throughout the Orioles horrific 9-23 start in their first 32 games aside from the obvious is this – should Adam Jones be sent down to the minors?

As of today, he’s currently hitting .230 with an abysmal .257 on-base-percentage along with three homers and seven RBI’s. This is not good considering Jones was an All-Star in 2009, featured prominently in commercials for both the Orioles/MASN  and he’s  — for better or worse — one of the ‘faces of the franchise’.

Then again, your franchise player should not be hitting .230 nor find himself absolutely lost at times batting.

I don’t think Adam Jones should be sent down to the minors at this time. Honestly, he’s had a fair track record the past couple of seasons; sadly, he’s probably not hit his weight since his All-Star Game nod in 2009.

He’s gone – I think – away from his approach in the first half of 2009. I don’t know if the league had figured him out or if he fell into bad habits and is getting caught swinging at low-and-way pitches along with breaking stuff, but he’s been scuffling for months now.

The team as we all know has struggled out of the gate and while Jones valiantly tried to step up and take over the leadoff duties due to injuries to Brian Roberts and Felix Pie, he didn’t cut it.

I took a good look at Jones during Spring Training; he looked focused and disciplined at the plate.

Adam may be trying way too hard to deliver, but he might be served well batting lower and regaining his confidence.

At the moment, sending Jones down the minors may do more harm than good with his psyche. I say let him work through his issues and figure his swing out.

I say let’s exercise patience as hard as it may be to watch Adam Jones and the Orioles at this time.
