News and Stuffage: 3rd Base, Players Like Millwood Trade, Bergesen, Buck

One of the names mentioned as a possible stop gap at third — Pedro Feliz — is off the market. Yesterday, he signed a one-year deal with the Houston Astros.

Meanwhile, it looks as if the Orioles are looking at Kevin Kouzmanoff (San Diego) and Dan Uggla as potential replacements at third; however, both men have their positives and negatives.

Overall, I’d say despite Steve Johnson being taken in the Rule 5 Draft, the Orioles had a solid week in Indiana. The players seem to love the Millwood trade as does a former Orioles front office member

The team got another pitcher from the Rule 5 DraftJose Duran, and the team brass are still taking a closer look at Cuban pitcher Aroldis Chapman. Also, Dave Trembley wants to see more wins (as we all do), plus toughness out of his players — especially the pitching.

It looks like Brad Bergesen will indeed be ready for the 2010 season as his leg seems to be healed.

Does anyone sense that Erik Bedard might be back in an Oriole uniform? Many do…

Finally, Buck Martinez has left MASN to become a broadcaster with the Blue Jays.

I didn’t have a problem with Martinez at all. He was a solid announcer, pretty much called things down the line without really ripping anyone and was a solid professional. Although he didn’t have the folksy appeal, or was particularly flamboyant, I appreciated his work and he was nice to when I got a chance to speak with him.
