Yankees One Step Closer to Fulfilling Their Manifest Destiny, Steve Phillips and More…

Guess who’s back in the World Series after six years — yes, the Yankees. They are one step away from fulfilling their manifest destiny as they beat the Angels, 5-2. The Yankees, down 1-0, in the fourth inning, scored three times in the that frame to take the lead and never look back. They scored twice more in the eighth to widen their lead, and Mariano Rivera came in to close out the game, plus the series.

Too bad for Los Angeles, they could have had a storybook ending considering what happened with them along with the Adenhart tragedy; however, they were bested by a team that was way, way too strong. I thought they would have put up more of a challenge, but the New Yorkers from top to bottom were just too good.

Finally, Alex Rodriguez will play in a World Series and Joe Girardi will get a chance to earn his stripes as manager of the Yankees. They will play the Phillies starting on Wednesday, and it should be a fun series as both teams matchup well (boy, do the Phillies have an hell of an offense), plus game one should be a classic, as big C.C. Sabathia counters against his former Indian teammate, Cliff Lee.

Steve Phillips was fired from his job with ESPN this weekend. It’s too bad that his had to happen, but all things considered, the network had to do it. It was a dumb move on Phillips’ part to have even engaged with a young woman (who is certifiable crazy), and has cost him his career, his good name, and perhaps even his family. The man simply lost a lot for a few flings here and there with a woman half his age.

Dumb move. Phillips’ tale should be a cautionary one to anyone — especially managers, higher-ups and executives — who thinks it’s a good idea to engage in sexual behavior with subordinate employees.

Manny Acta — former Washington Nationals manager — was hired as skipper of the Cleveland Indians. Yes, Acta’s record in Washington is nothing to be proud of — that team was a train wreck and very poorly run — however, he’s good with people, a positive man on and off the field, and plus has extensive work with Latin players. I’m rooting for him to succeed.
