Heading to the Bronx Are … the Twins, who win the AL Central

The Minnesota Twins are heading to New York to face the Yankees. They won against the Detroit Tigers in 12 innings, 6-5. Well, I’ll say, I got home today and watched the game — perhaps the greatest regular and riveting season game I’ve ever witnessed — from start to finish. Alexi Casilla plated Carlos Gomez for the winning run off Detroit reliever Fernando Rodney and the Metrodome went crazy.

You have to give props to both teams as they showed heart, mettle, and it was a game to be remebered for all time. Minnesota wins the AL Central and earns the final playoff spot. Considering this is the second year in a row where they have played 163 games, it was a well deserved honor.

There were so many moments that could have decided the game for teams, and it was incredibly well managed by both the Tiger’s Jim Leyland and the Twins’ Ron Gardenhire, but in the end, the Twins got the break they needed as they tagged Fernando Rodney for a few hits that decided everything.

The Twins go on the face the Yankees, while Detroit has to go home and ponder what went wrong in September when they gave up a seven game lead in the division — unebeliveable. Could Miguel Cabrera’s drama in the past few days have costed his team a playoff spot? Maybe; however, the Twins played their hearts and in the end, their season is extended.

It’s a shame that the Tigers didn’t make it — the playoffs could have immensely helped Detroit at least in a mental, if not financial sense. Can the small market Twins defeat the Evil Empire? We shall see.

From what I saw tonight, the 2009 posteason may be a ride to remember…
