It was not a good weekend out in Oakland -- we all pretty much know what happened as the O's bats went to sleep, Guthrie got shelled in the first game, Wieters only has two hits in eights games, Oakland pitchers looked like Cy Young, and Rich Hill didn't make it out of the first inning on Sunday.
The end result was a sweep by the Athletics of the Orioles; alas, looking back, Baltimore all but handed the series to them. It seems like aside from Luke Scott and Nolan Reimold, pretty much everyone in the lineup -- sans Adam Jones -- struggled at the plate. Well, the losses were a collective team effort; however, the offensive silence this weekend was beyond galling.
I really am going to say anymore from what happened on the field, but after their great homestand before they went on the road -- things were promising, and then perhaps we are seeing the Baltimore Orioles for what they are.
A team that's rebuilding.
I'm all for sticking with the plan as-is. I'm sure most would rather with young guys at the moment than re-treads and veterans who make too much money. Let's just stick with the young guys, see what they can do, hopefully see the team play with some consistency and hope things are better in July than they are in the second week of June.
Besides, it's a long season and anything can happen.
