It was another impressive showing by Koji Uehara as the the Baltimore Orioles beat a formidable Dominican Republic team tuning up for the World Baseball Classic, 6-1.
Once again, Koji Uehara was golden on the mound as he threw three consecutive innings to lead the Orioles to victory. His only real mistake came about as he hit Willy Taveras with a pitch; however, he was efficient — only needing 36 pitches to go through his afternoon.
So far, I more I reead about Uehara — the more like him. He may not throw hard, but his control seems to be impeccable, and at this point as long as he throws strikes, has movement on his pitches, and gets guys out, he’ll go a long way in being a small part in making the Orioles respectable again.
The Orioles got on the scoreboard first as Ty Wigginton hit a three run off youngster Johnny Cueto of the Reds. Then in the fourth inning, both Felix and Gregg Zaun drove in runs off Pedro Martinez. Robby Hammick drove in Baltimore’s final run with a groundout in the seventh inning.
After Uehara left the game, Matt Albers and Brian Bass each pitched two scoreless innings; meanwhile, Bob McCrory gave up only run of the game for Baltimore as he pitched the final innings of the contest.
