Uehara, The Japanese Press & Charm City

I honestly think that there’s has not been much that has happened from a fan’s perspective with the Hot Stove when it comes to the Orioles; however, it seems that Koji Uehara has recently got a lot of attention, which could be a good thing for Baltimore.

A few days ago, I had to drive up to Baltimore city for some business, and strolling past the ballpark on Russell Street, I saw a group of people outside the park — all Asian and presumably Japanese.

With the signing of Uehara, it will be interesting to see the coverage that the Orioles get outside of America. I’m wondering if the media perception will be positive, only from the player’s perspective, or negative if the team starts out poorly. Whatever happens, I’ll make it a point to look at Japanese websites every so often to see what they think of the Orioles. As well, I wonder if Uehara will command the entourage of what Hideki Matsui, Ichiro or Diasuke Matsuzaka would recieve.

It should be fun to see.

Anyhow, Uehara is expected to be at news conference today — it’s taking place more than likely as I write. According to the Sun and MASN, the place is packed with media.
